I booked my son in for a session as a 30th birthday present. He really enjoyed it and so did I watching him, up to 4 people can accompany the ‘pilot’ and share the experience. It certainly made a different present and hopefully something he will remember for years to come. Great fun!!

What a great time on the simulator. Xmas present from my wife.1st time I have taken off from RAF Marham. Good to “fly” over home town of Downham Market and to “fly” once again over dear old RAF Kenley. Also went to N Zealand again to renew acquaintance with Mt Cook and Auckland. Flew back over London and under the Dartford Crossing before return landing at Norwich. Only shame that it was only simulated but much cheaper that real flights.Actually managed to land without a bounce! An experience well worth it Many thanks to John and the team for a great time.

I was bought a Sim-Fly voucher for my birthday by my very thoughtful Parents-in-Law. Booked a slot on possibly the best day of the year so far and had a great drive out to Old Buckenham with Marie my wife.
On arrival we were met by John and Harvey who were both very friendly and welcoming.
After a very relaxed chat for a few minutes to understand if I had any flying experience a rapport was quickly established alongside an approach to getting me up and running. It had been a while so did I chose the to fly the Cessna for about 10 minutes.
After that it was fast jet all the way. A Tornado through the welsh valleys and China, next the Buccaneer in the Nevada dessert – Awesome!!
Marie was getting embroiled too so we swapped for a few minutes to go back to the Cessna to look around locations in Norwich were we are thinking of living. It was focused and exciting – and that was just Marie.
Really enjoyed the time spent in the simulator and what you can fly, where you can fly it!
It definitely reignited my passion for flying and as soon as I can afford it I will do my PPL.
In the meantime I can’t wait for the Sim-Fly move to Norwich airport and the introduction of ‘dog fighting’ in Spitfires v Messerschmitts – as well as a bit more fast jet time. Am sure Callum my 17 year old will be up for a bit of 2 v 2.
Thanks John and Harvey for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and Birthday. And for being so accommodating to Marie as well.

I have had a truly wonderful morning with Capt John and Harvey. I was met with a warm welcome and a cup of tea and after a chat about aviation we made our way over to the simulator for a quick run through of controls and manoeuvres. After covering the basic principles in the Cessna I was then moved onto other aircraft for the free play half of the lesson.
Capt John has a natural flair for teaching and I would thoroughly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to learn to fly or has an interest in aviation.
I will most definitely be back again.

This was truly a memorable experience & can’t recommend it highly enough, I got to fly 3 different types of aircraft during my session. You get totally immersed with the high definition graphics & realistic feel of flying an aircraft. I started off flying a bi-plane over my house & surrounding areas before feeling more confident to take on one of my all time wishes of flying a fighter jet through the Welsh mountains & valleys, this was absolutely awesome 🙂 John Hoyte is such a lovely man & takes his time to explain what all the the functions of the controls are for & makes you feel at ease to enjoy the experience in no time at all, I will in the very near future be going back for more flying experiences.

A really pleasurable way to learn all about flying. The simulator is so realistic I felt nervous waiting for take-off and at other times during the journey, but not to worry, Captain John puts you at ease and allows you to control what you do and where you go with a helping hand.. Told me I had talent, but I bet he says that to all comers!!

The Sim-Fly experience was excellent and really good value for your money.
I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone, I am 68 years young and never tried this before but with John’s clear and simple instructions I was able to make a perfect flight and land the aircraft at the first attempt.
The best experience I’ve had with my clothes on for years.

This experience was a xmas present from my wife not something I had saught out my self. I was welcomed by Captain John Hoyte who did a great job of explaining the simulator and was a fantastically calm and assuring instructor. The experience was about as real as can be expected with your feet still on the ground, but the wide screen, graphics, instrumentation, sound and vibrating seat all collude to make the experience virtually real. Johns easy manner quickly had me at ease and feeling competent in the air. First a Cessna then a Spitfire followed by a Tiger moth that developed an engine problem. I felt the Cessna was accurate from memories of a previous flying lesson, so must assume the Spitfire was similarly accurate. It was exhilarating!! I understand that a simulator is a compromise but in my opinion, it was as close as it gets. John allowed my daughter to film some of the screen footage and even changed the display and replayed landings so that I could see how they looked. As a spectator my daughter enjoyed the experience and felt like she had been a passenger, feeling engaged and in no way bored.
All in all it was a very good experience, and the time flew by (pardon the pun). In reality the concentration levels were so high that I felt totally immersed in the simulator and the overall experience. So I guess, ‘it does what says on the tin’. Try it you’ll love it, whether on your own or with family or colleagues. In reality this is a taster session for anyone wanting to progress to becoming a private pilot. John can take you learning all the way to supplement the real flying hours needed to achieve a licence.

Sim/fly is a flying experience for all ages, it is so realistic, so versatile with a huge range of aircraft to choose to fly virtually worldwide. John Hoyt is a superb, enthusiatic, fun pilot, who helps you as little or as much as you want to take off, fly and land from most local and worldwide airports. There are toilets, tea and coffee, lounge with books, magazines etc. Cafe Jimmy’s (named after James Stewart who flew from Old Buckenham airport in WWII) is open Thursday through to Sunday. Brilliant birthday gift idea or introduction to learning to fly. Well Done to John and helping hand Harvey.

I was given a voucher for an hours “flight” for my Christmas present. All I had to do was phone to make a booking using the unique code on the voucher, then show up. All very relaxed and informal, John Hoyte, an experienced commercial pilot and Harvey (the tech guy) were very hospitable and we had a chat over a cup of tea for the pre flight briefing. Then into a small “studio” where the cockpit was setup. This consists of a large curved screen onto which the outside view is projected, and the cockpit controls themselves which (although somewhat generic) were very lifelike and had an expensive quality feel to them. John makes you feel very much at ease as we discussed all the options and then the instruction on how to get airborne. From there on in, the world is your oyster….any location and enough aircraft choice to be in there for days! I flew a Mosquito under the QE2 Bridge, a BAe Hawk (of Red Arrows fame) around Norfolk, landed a Supermarine Spitfire MkIX at Heathrow after “buzzing the tower” and finally a Gruman Sea Plane out of Grantly Adams Airport, Barbados and landed on the water. John finally threw in a “curve ball” and cut the engine on my Tiger Moth so I had to pick a field to glide into. All as realistic or as relaxed as you want it to be (for complete beginners, John can teach you how to fly).
My voucher was for an hour but we got lost in the moment and it was nearer to two!! I can’t recommend more highly that you’ve gotta give this a go, I shall definitely be going again! Thanks once again to John and Harvey (and my wife) for a very enjoyable and memorable afternoon!!

Old Buckenham airfield is a small hub of activity. In amongst the buildings sits Sim-fly. Easy to park and well sign posted once on the airfield. Met John (instructor) and Harvey (IT), both very friendly and welcoming. Sat down in the ‘cockpit’ and after a briefing by John, we took off from Norwich. Over the hour I flew a Hawk, DC3, BAC Lightning and a few others. John didn’t clock watch at all and we overflew my hour. John was there all the time to offer advice and suggestions.
I would recommend this ‘treat’ whole heartedly, for any age. John also runs courses that are more technically based for budding pilots. Now looking forward to booking my next trip.

My husband was given a voucher for 5 flights. I went along with him each time and sat in with him for a couple of the sessions, as did my daughter (who flew gliders many years ago) for one of the sessions. We were made very welcome each time, given cups of coffee and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. As my husband had worked for an airline for many years, had been on a real flight at this airfield 10 years ago and wishes to go on some more flights, he found the sessions on the simulater very illuminating. Many thanks to John and Harvey for their good-humoured patience and tuition. Indeed a splendid and enjoyable birthday treat which lasted several weeks.

I took my step son along who had been bought a voucher for Christmas. He is 14 and on the autistic spectrum. The tuition was top class with John being a most amenable host, and related very well to my step son. Jack flew a Cessna over Norfolk to Cromer and back and made a very good landing back at Norwich Airport. This is a great simulator and you can learn a lot about flying even sitting observing.
If you are interested in flying this is a great first step along the road to doing the real thing. I would definitely go back. A most enjoyable afternoon

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to fly a plane or a variety of planes, without the huge expense involved in doing it, then this is most definitely for you. Now to be honest, I was not such a person. Until we bought the experience for a 20th birthday present for a family member, I was not particularly enthusiastic. His experience changed all that. It was without doubt most enjoyable. There is something of a 2nd world war officer’s mess feeling about the place, hardly surprising as it possibly was just that at one time. Capt. John is enthusiastic and this rubs off. The variety of aircraft you can simultaneously flying is vast and the airports you take off from is also huge. The family member rated this 10/10. I would agree.

Having not piloted an aircraft for 50 years I decided to visit Sim-Fly who told me I could fly any plane from anywhere. I elected to fly an Auster from Kai Tak the old Hong Kong airport which I last flew from in 1963.
My wife and I were greeted by Captain John Hoyte, a most agreeable host, and given coffee whilst we discussed my requirements. We then entered the simulator where the controls were explained while Margot watched. I then had an hour flying both an Auster in Hong Kong and Norfolk then a Spitfire which I landed at Lakenheath. All in all a very satisfying experience with John’s expert advice on the operation of the controls.

This was both a thoroughly enjoyable session and also a really good grounding in the basics of flying. The simulator was excellent as was John’s presentation and guidance throughout the session. It’s amazing how immersive and ‘real’ it felt. After starting with a Cessna you can go on to fly almost anything from any airfield in the world. I can’t wait to have another go and would definitely recommend John and Sim Fly to anyone interested in learning the basics of flying or as a present for anyone interested in flying or aeroplanes.

My Dad won a voucher in a raffle and gave it to me to use, which I am very glad he did. Had a fascinating afternoon with John and Harvey who made me feel at home and explained everything very well. Dad and Mum were able to sit in with me so also able to experience the fun of flying a Cessna, Red Arrow over the Nevada desert and a Hawkmoth (I think) which I landed at Tibenham airfield near to where I live!! Great fun especially doing a loop the loop in the Red Arrow. Quite realistic I felt very responsible for the plane, wasn’t too good on the runway but great in the air!! Would recommend it for something different to try. Thankyou for the experience.
