Around 5 weeks ago Abby, a local teenager began a 5 hour flying course which led to her doing a final cross country flight from Norwich to Cambridge and then a quick flight completely on her own with her Dad watching and her younger brother. How cool is that?
The first 2 hours of the course were spent going through a simple checklist to firstly prepare the Cessna 150 for flight, then start the engine – shouting “CLEAR PROP!!!”, after start checks, learning how to taxi the aircraft, power checks and vital actions before – taking off!!
We did 2 hours of taking off, effects of controls, climbing, leveling off, straight and level, descending, turning and then landings!
Having got an idea of the basics we then flew 2 more hours in the circuit where pilots practice all of the maneuvers mentioned above, but all in the space of around 10 minutes – so suddenly quite a lot to do, but all good fun and Abby took it all in her stride.
The last hour was taken up by learning how to navigate from Norwich to Cambridge, before actually doing all the checks and flying it. The great thing about simulators is that there is never any weather to worry about as we can set ‘permanent summer’ – no wind! So never a missed lesson or wasted time.
To finish off, Abby took her Dad and younger brother on a quick 15 minute solo flight from Norwich airport over her house and back to land again. The instructor was busy making a cup of tea!
Abby got a special certificate to prove to her teachers and mates, that she can fly…
Whether nor not Abby takes up flying at least she knows the basics of flying now and anyone can learn these – do you or somebody special you know want a new challenge – but all in perfect safety?
If so, do get in touch and find out about our special 5 hour deal – you only pay for 4 hours…
